I did not agree with picking up Ortiz's option, but I'm glad Vicor is gone. Now with Adrian Gonzalez in the fold (without losing Kalish or Iglesias), the Sox are on a roll. If they want to, they could sign Crawford or Werth, or trade for Justin Upton. So far, the Sox have shed about $40 million in salary and Gonzalez is making $6 in 2011. After 2011, the Sox will shed Paps' $12 million, Ortiz's $12.5 million, Drew's $14 million, Cameron's $8, Scutero's $6, Wakefield's $3, and Varitek's $3, for a total of $58.5 million. Gonzalez's extention will likely add $17 million/yr. So the Sox will have money to spend.
If they get Crawford, the lineup would be:

PAYDIRT!
I have accepted 1 of the 2 offers I received from managed services companies in the Boston area. It was hard telling the other company that I was turning them down because they were very persistent, professional, and personable. I would not hesitate recommending them to prospective systems administrators.
Anyway, the company I chose offered me a senior position on their support team, with the understanding that I would earn the position of team leader. Notice I say EARN. I have a lot of learning to do and will be going non-stop to get up to speed.
Now that I am officially off the job market, let me share some ideas and tips on how I job-searched and got many interviews before landing this one:
1) Post your resume and update it often
2) Make contacts through LinkedIn. That's how I found this job.
3) Job search 3 times a week, using different search words on several job boards
4) Don't take a job JUST for the paycheck. You'll be back on the market soon enough
5) Don't be afraid to ask for what you feel you're worth....but be reasonable
6) Prep yourself for all interviews and have examples ready for standard questions
7) At the end, ask "Do you have any reservations about bringing me on board?" If they have, you can clear it up before you leave and lose your opportunity.
8) Send thank you notes 1-3 days later

In addition to husband, father, and Systems Administrator, I now hold the title of blogger.
My name is Steve Shore. I'm an IT professional in the Boston area with 10 years experience. I worked my way up the ladder from help desk and desktop support associate to Systems Administrator before being laid off at Thansgiving. Like many of you out there, I've been on numerous phone and in-person interviews. All have ended the same way for different reasons: underqualified, overqualified, filling the role internally, position on hold, position eliminated.
I update and repost my resume weekly, search nearly a dozen job boards at least twice a week. and just got my LinedIn account up to speed. LinkedIn has opened the door to dozens of networking events and has already introduced me to peoople who want to help me out.
The hardest part is keeping up your spirits. You're Charlie Borwn and the companies are Lucy. You think you interviewed well and are qualified, but at the last minute you're kicking air and land flat on your kiester. Since I started LinkedIn and constantly networking, I feel more in control of my future and less anxious. I also know others are in worse shape. I met someone in his 50s on Monday who was out of work 21 months before he landed his big job.
Besides sharing my job hunting experiences, I also want to have fun and be creative with this blog. I could post about almost anything; the Red Sox, restaurants, current events, my favorite TV shows. I hope you can learn from my experiences, share some deep and not-so-deep thoughts, and maybe have a laugh
